Echternach: Parking Lake
Echternach: Parking Lake
Directions
The local hiking trail E5 starts at the lake in Echternach. At first, the path runs along the right side of the 30 ha large lake, which was created in 1975. With some luck, you can observe herons, whose nesting sites are located high in the tops of the poplars. Along the trail, you will also often see shells of pond mussels that live in the muddy bottom of the lake.
After circling half of the lake, you continue straight and follow the path which turns left after about 50 m. Then you cross the street and walk up Rue Gibraltar, which leads to the hill Thoull and its viewpoint. In a small wooded area on the summit of Thoull (240 m), benches invite you to take a break. On the descent across a meadow, you have beautiful views of Echternach with the imposing Willibrordus Basilica. After the descent, you reach a narrow path parallel to the Lätschebaach towards the football field and then into Rue de la Chapelle.
At the end of Rue de la Chapelle, you pass by the Chapel of the Mother of God, built in the mid-17th century by an abbot of the abbey in the style of Late Renaissance. The shady tree alley Rabatt leads the path along the Lauterburerbaach back to the starting point.
