Directions
On foot, the children’s hiking trail with a total length of 5.5 km leads from Becher station via Altrier, where excavations revealed one of the most important Roman settlements in Luxembourg territory.
This settlement, at the crossroads of the Roman roads Trier-Ardennes and Luxembourg-Echternach, was probably destroyed in the 5th century by the Huns. Little remains of the former vicus on site, but the numerous finds are housed in the National Museum of History and Art.
South and east of Altrier lie the quiet places Hemstal, Zittig, and Bech, which so far have been spared from busy tourist traffic, directly on the former narrow-gauge railway popular by the name “Charly.” Along today’s cycling and hiking route, the path leads you back to the starting point.
